The Hartford is seeking a skilled Data Scientist to drive innovation through Generative AI. In this role, you will be responsible for applying your expertise in generative AI models (text and image) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods to develop and deploy solutions that address critical business needs. You will work closely with business stakeholders to understand their challenges and translate them into data-driven solutions. We're growing our Small Commercial Data Science team to spearhead the development of Generative AI solutions. This expansion focuses on leveraging Cloud services, both large and small GenAI models, and established Natural Language Processing techniques to tackle key business challenges. You'll be instrumental in creating innovative solutions for efficient underwriting, accelerating processes, and identifying risks by analyzing vast amounts of internal and external data. This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, Charlotte, NC, Chicago, IL, Columbus, OH) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday)  Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop end-to-end AI solutions, including data ingestion, feature engineering, model development, and deployment, in both traditional and GenAI settings
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and develop solutions that meet their requirements
  • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into existing business processes and systems
  • Develop and maintain complex data pipelines and architectures using cloud-based platforms (AWS and/or GCP)
  • Design and implement data governance and quality control processes to ensure high-quality data
  • Develop and maintain models using a variety of machine learning algorithms and deep learning techniques
  • Conduct thorough analysis and testing of AI solutions to ensure their accuracy, reliability, and performance
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning and apply this knowledge to drive innovation and improvement

Requirements:

  • Masters in computer science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in data science and AI development
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or SQL
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms, including AWS and/or GCP
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and deep learning techniques
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions
  • Experience with GenAI and traditional AI solutions development
  • Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with commercial insurance domain and regulatory requirements
  • Certification in GenAI, machine learning, or AWS MLE
  • RAG Architecture:  Data Ingestion, Data Retrieval – optimal methods such as hybrid search, etc., and Data Generation
  • GenAI (multi-modal) Validation:
    • Involve subject matter experts, domain specialists, and end-users in the validation process to assess the quality, accuracy, and relevance of the GenAI outputs.
    • Implement end-to-end pipeline that captures scores including but not limited to BertScore, BLEURT (BERT-based Learned Unidirectional Representation from Transformers), etc. to assess golden data sets at different stages of development and deployment.
  • Experience with end-to-end deployment of GenAI solutions

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$110,720 - $166,080
