The Senior Special Loans Risk Manager is a seasoned expert responsible for assisting in the administration and management of high risk and impaired accounts to maximize shareholder value and minimize capital erosion of high risk and impaired assets. The role works with minimal direction on complex projects using deep knowledge in their field of expertise, maximizing the recovery of non-performing loans and restoring deteriorating loans to health to preserve CIBC’s capital. The Senior Special Loans Risk Manager manages a designated selection of accounts including non-performing loans, debts written off, assets in the loan realization account, and certain high-risk performing loans, developing action plans to curb credit problems related to specific accounts. The role exercises considerable judgement for decision making, providing innovative ideas including the use of third party service providers such as trustees, legal counsel, and bailiffs to introduce superior recoveries at acceptable expense.

Knowledge

  • Proven track record in commercial lending with emphasis in commercial real estate
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial real estate accounting, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and CRE workouts
  • Knowledge and understanding of CRE debt disposition strategies
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Working knowledge of ASC 310-10-35 FAS 114 impairment practices and the Basel III Accord

Skills

  • Strong analytical background
  • Knowledge of financial, accounting,  and legal processes and principles associated with commercial lending
  • Ability to analyze large amount of data and recommend appropriate steps to be taken in workout situations
  • Sense of urgency
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with borrowers, external business partners, internal business partners, and stakeholders of the CRE debt disposition process
  • Interact constructively within reporting structure and across organizational boundaries
  • Working knowledge of operational process improvement preferred

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience required
  • MBA preferred

Experience

  • 4-6 years of experience in banking / finance industry required
  • Special Assets experience preferred

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package.  This role has an expected salary range of $105,000 – 130,000 for the New York, New York market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position.  The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
