This role will oversee legal aspects of privacy and cybersecurity compliance throughout the Company’s global organization. How You'll Create Possibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Privacy

   

  • Develop and implement a global privacy strategy that aligns with Company’s objectives, relevant laws and regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Lead the Company’s Privacy Committee and Executive Privacy Council.
  • Provide legal advice on privacy-related matters, including compliance with global privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
  • Draft and review privacy policies, procedures, internal and external facing privacy notices to ensure compliance with privacy and cybersecurity laws.
  • Serve as a point of contact for privacy and security-related customer and regulatory inquiries and investigations.
  • Develop data governance and classification standards with Company’s information technology team.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, such as legal, information technology, engineering, and business units, to resolve complex privacy and risk management issues and to assess cybersecurity measures and response protocols.
  • Stay informed of changes and developments in privacy laws, regulations, standards, and guidance, and communicate these changes effectively to relevant stakeholders.
  • Educate and train employees in data privacy and cybersecurity to foster a culture of security and privacy.
  • Facilitate Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for new products, programs, agreements, and initiatives, and update risk assessments to identify and mitigate data protection risks.
  • Lead and manage outside counsel relationships, as necessary.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with active bar membership, in good standing, in any US state.
  • 10+ years practicing law in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Confident, positive, initiative-taking creative thinker with effective critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively.
  • 7+ years of privacy legal work experience
  • Demonstrated analytical experience, including assessing risk from a privacy and data protection perspective.
  • Comprehensive understanding of US and international data privacy and security laws (e.g., CCPA, COPPA, HIPAA).
  • Ability to multi-task and work both independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel when needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as CIPP and/or CIPM.
  • 2+ years at a large law firm advising on data privacy matters and 5+ years at an in-house corporation advising on privacy matters.

Experience with the following subject matters:

  • Privacy data governance strategies to meet global legal requirements, industry standards, and customer requirements, especially in the areas of emerging technologies, products, and services.
  • In-house practice supporting privacy and product distribution for a major manufacturing company.
  • UCC contract negotiation and drafting agreements.
