Stripe is seeking a People Specialist Manager to join our global team. In this Chicago-based role supporting the Americas, the People Specialist Manager will serve as both a leader and coach for the People Specialist (PS) team, enabling and supporting managers at Stripe to build and lead successful teams. This individual will bring operational rigor and HR expertise to effectively balance day-to-day operations and service delivery with the growth and development of the team. The People Specialist Manager will guide the PS team in leveraging policies, research, insights, and cross-functional partnerships—such as those with legal counsel and Employee Relations—to coach managers and ensure meaningful, fair, effective, and compliant experiences for all Stripes.

What you’ll do

As a People Specialist Manager, you’ll help make Stripe a great place to work and grow. You’ll work with business leaders, managers, and employees across Stripe to strategize and implement systems, processes, and programs to help people succeed while managing a team of People Specialists across the US and Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Lead a High-Performing Team: Build, cultivate and lead a globally-distributed team of People Specialists across the Americas, ensuring high performance and collaboration while providing support, coaching, and problem-solving assistance.
  • Model Best Practices and Values: Exemplify the best qualities of a People Specialist, serving as a role model and coach for the team.
  • Partner with Front-Line Managers: Provide guidance and support to front-line managers on all people-related matters, including performance management, coaching, career development, employee relations, leveling, and team effectiveness, with a strong emphasis on belonging and inclusivity.
  • Advise on People Policies: Consult with front-line management on Stripe's People policies and best practices, collaborating with fellow People team members and legal counsel as needed.
  • Strategize with Leadership: Work directly with People Partners (HRBPs), managers, and leaders to align on broader organizational strategies and initiatives.
  • Facilitate Program Rollouts: Ensure the smooth implementation of key People programs, offering support for performance review cycles, compensation cycles, employee engagement surveys, and other ad hoc programs.
  • Analyze Organizational Health: Assess and present insights on organizational health trends to managers and leaders while managing the tracking and reporting of key people data to inform team strategy.
  • Enhance Employee Experience: Ensure a positive employee experience throughout key life cycle stages, including the departure process.
  • Ensure Compliance: Collaborate with legal counsel and external specialists to ensure Stripe's compliance with federal, state, and local labor regulations, such as wage regulations and equal employment opportunity laws.
  • Identify Themes and Trends: Work closely with the team lead to identify key themes and trends, suggesting insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Improve HR Processes: Identify opportunities to enhance HR processes and collaborate with cross-functional partner teams to implement.
  • Lead with Empathy: Foster a culture of humility, optimism, belonging, and inclusivity.

Who you are

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of HR experience, including at least 3 years in a client-facing HR role (e.g., HR generalist, HR Business Partner, Employee Relations partner), or equivalent experience in a business-facing role
  • Experience managing and leading teams, with an ability to coach, advise and unblock your direct reports
  • Direct Manager Support: Experience partnering with managers on performance management, employee relations, and team culture.
  • Program Rollout: Experience supporting managers during the rollout of company-wide HR programs including performance reviews, compensation planning, and talent reviews.
  • Policy Application: Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying HR policy in a geographically distributed workforce.
  • Americas HR and Legal Knowledge: Working knowledge of employment legislation and practices the US, Canada, and Mexico
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to diagnose problems using data and develop viable solutions.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred qualifications

  • Operations Management: Experience using case management tooling, making data-informed decisions, and balancing day to day client needs with operational excellence, including adherence to SLAs and quality targets
  • Fast-Paced Environment: Experience working in a rapidly growing technology company or large organization.
  • Frontline Manager Support: Experience supporting managers in both tech and non-tech functions.
  • Training Facilitation: Experience in developing training materials and conducting employee workshops.
  • Project Management: Proven project management skills with the ability to engage stakeholders effectively and deliver work on schedule.
