Lead the growth marketing strategy, focusing on demand generation and acquisition for a self-serve API platform. Drive awareness and optimize growth funnels while mentoring a marketing team.
The summary above was generated by AI

Apollo GraphQL is the industry-leading API platform - with over 1 billion downloads - that helps teams build modern, reliable APIs at scale. We’re expanding from GraphQL into the broader category of API orchestration, empowering both developers and business teams to design, implement, and operate APIs more efficiently.

As we double down on our developer-first ethos and bottoms‑up motion, we’re seeking a Head of Growth Marketing to lead demand, acquisition, and activation across self‑serve channels, turning sign‑ups into engaged users and future enterprise customers.

If you’re energized by the opportunity to own and scale a bottoms‑up growth engine at a category‑defining company, let’s talk!

What you'll own

  • Drive developer awareness & acquisition. Lead the top of funnel for our self-serve motion: build campaigns and programs that increase brand and product awareness among technical audiences, drive high-quality sign‑ups, and fuel a robust developer community in partnership with our DevRel, Product Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Communications teams.
  • Growth funnel optimization. Build transparent, data‑driven systems to track and optimize every stage of the self‑serve funnel: awareness → sign‑up → activation → expansion → revenue.
  • Revenue & pipeline growth. Collaborate with Revenue and Product teams to identify and nurture high-potential users into paid plans and/or opportunities with Sales, influencing both self-serve and emerging enterprise pipeline.
  • Team leadership & scaling. Hire, mentor, and scale a lean, high-performing growth marketing team and partner closely with Product Marketing, Brand, Engineering, and Sales to build a cohesive, end‑to‑end growth function.
  • Experimentation & insights. Own a culture of rapid experimentation: ideate, launch, and iterate on acquisition channels (content marketing, developer events, paid, partnerships), then double‑down on the highest‑impact tactics.

Who you are

  • 12+ years of hands‑on experience in growth marketing, demand generation, product marketing/management, or related roles at high‑growth technical B2B SaaS companies.
  • Technical audience expertise. Deep experience marketing developer tools or other technical products. You have the ability to craft credible, compelling messaging and content that resonates with engineering audiences, and you're familiar with developer communities and open source ecosystems.
  • Track record of building a scalable bottom‑up motion. Driving awareness, sign‑ups, activation, usage, and revenue through data‑driven experimentation.
  • Team leadership & scaling. Proven experience hiring, mentoring, and growing a high-performing growth marketing team, while establishing a cohesive, end-to-end growth function. You've directly led a team and handled performance conversations.
  • Results-oriented. Expert at defining leading indicators of success that are aligned to business outcomes, setting forecasts, and consistently improving ROI across channels.
  • Strategic & tactical. Comfortable developing a big-picture growth strategy, then rolling up your sleeves to execute and iterate quickly in a scrappy startup environment.
  • Collaborative leader. Excels at influencing cross‑functional stakeholders (Product Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Brand) and aligning teams around shared objectives.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset. Thrives in ambiguity, defines your own playbook, and relentlessly pursues new ideas to solve growth challenges.

Nice to have

  • Experience with API, GraphQL, or backend platform marketing.
  • Past success scaling growth in a hybrid self‑serve and enterprise model.
