The Role: The Head of Financial Systems and Business Intelligence is responsible overseeing the direction of Morningstar's finance system infrastructure and business intelligence strategy across a global organization, including managing data analysis, reporting, and system implementation to provide crucial insights for decision-making within the finance department. This position will spearhead the planning and execution of finance system initiatives that drive efficiency and help pave the way for a data-driven future in support of the entire finance organization. This position will report directly to Morningstar's Chief Financial Officer and is based in Chicago.
Key Responsibilities:
System Strategy and Implementation

  • Lead the selection, implementation, and maintenance of global finance systems, including ERP software.
  • Create and execute a technology roadmap for finance systems that aligns with business objectives and supports long-term scalability.
  • Lead the strategy to transition from legacy platforms to cloud-based technology.


Data Analytics and BI

  • Design and drive the global BI roadmap for the global finance team.
  • Build and manage a robust business intelligence infrastructure, including data warehousing, data pipelines, and visualization tools.


AI and Automation

  • Responsible for the global development and execution of the vision, mission, governance, and functional automation strategy for Morningstar's global finance business processes.
  • Ensure the organization stays at the forefront of automation through various tools, including RPA and AI technologies.


Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Oversee the development of standardized financial reports, KPIs, and dashboards to monitor performance across different regions and business units.
  • Ensure integration between finance systems and other platforms (e.g., Workday, payroll processing systems, data warehouses).


Team Leadership

  • Manage a team of finance systems experts, data analysts, business intelligence, and automation developers.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative environment, providing guidance and direction on data analysis and reporting.


Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with key stakeholders across the organization, including finance leadership, business unit heads, and IT teams.
  • Understand and reflect customer requirements, ensuring clear stakeholder benefits in team outputs.


Project Management

  • Lead large-scale global projects, including the deployment of corporate finance systems across multiple countries.
  • Drive significant cost reductions and operational efficiencies through technology transformations.


Compliance and Risk Management

  • Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements and ensure audit readiness across all systems.
  • Collaborate with audit teams to uphold controls and mitigate risks.


Vendor Management

  • Handle vendor selection, negotiations, and relationship management with strategic partners.
  • Oversee continuous improvement initiatives, governance processes, and application rationalization efforts.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: 15+ years of experience including a proven track record of leading large scale finance system transformation projects for a global firm.
  • Education: Bachelors degree in related field, Masters degree preferred.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), data warehousing technologies, business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and automation tools (RPA).
  • Data Analysis Skills: Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex data sets, identify trends, and generate actionable insights.
  • Leadership and Communication: Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and effectively communicate complex financial data to diverse stakeholders.

Base Salary Compensation Range
$144,517.00 - 260,138.00 USD Annual
Total Cash Compensation Range
$209,550.00 - 377,200.00 USD Annual

While some positions are available as fully remote, we've found that we're at our best when we're purposely together on a regular basis, typically three days each week.
