Overview
Our Business Intelligence (BI) team is the driving force behind The Motley Fool’s data-led decision-making. Utilizing advanced analytics, intuitive data visualization, AI tools, and robust reporting systems, our team discovers trends, assesses performance, and helps optimize operations across all departments. From marketing to finance, and product to operations, they collaborate extensively to ensure insights translate into actionable strategies.
We seek a strategic, data-driven leader to become our Head of Business Intelligence. This role reports to our Chief Technology Officer and leads a talented BI team to transform data into impactful business outcomes. You’ll be an innovative business thinker, a skilled data interpreter, and an inspiring people leader – adept at cultivating executive discussions, managing priorities in dynamic environments, and fostering trust through clarity, consistency, and results. The Head of BI will focus on delivering insights, aligning stakeholders, expanding the team’s influence across the company, and driving growth in our subscription-based business.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent BI to C-suite stakeholders across Marketing, Product, Finance, and Operations.
- Lead The Motley Fool’s Business Intelligence team, fostering a culture of curiosity, excellence, and impact.
- Develop and implement a BI strategy aligned with company priorities, emphasizing subscription growth, retention, and member engagement.
- Deliver high-impact BI initiatives that enhance clarity, efficiency, and business performance.
- Collaborate extensively with Finance to support forecasting, strategic planning, and aligned insights.
- Facilitate regular reporting and performance reviews with leadership to interpret results and pinpoint growth opportunities.
- Direct the creation of clear, actionable insights, KPI-driven reports, and scalable dashboards.
- Champion tools and practices that facilitate self-service, data governance, and informed decision-making.
- Identify knowledge gaps proactively, uncover emerging trends, and propose data-informed strategies.
- Spearhead experimentation, predictive modeling, and AI/ML initiatives.
- Lead revenue forecasting and modeling efforts to support strategic decision-making.
Key Qualifications
Experience:
- 7+ years in business intelligence, analytics, or data leadership roles, with a minimum of 3 years in team management.
- Extensive experience in subscription-based business models with a focus on optimizing LTV, CAC, churn, and retention.
- Strong expertise in marketing analytics and analyzing marketing data in subscription businesses.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial metrics, calculations, and a proven track record of influencing business decisions through data insights.
- Proven ability to foster strong relationships with senior stakeholders, serving as a trusted thought partner.
- Experience collaborating with Finance, Marketing, and Product teams to align insights with business objectives.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in dashboarding tools (Tableau, ThoughtSpot, Power BI) and SQL.
- Strong background in statistical analysis, experimental design, and predictive modeling.
- Experience building and managing scalable data reporting environments and promoting data self-service.
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML applications, including predictive analytics for customer behavior and churn, content recommendation personalization, and sentiment analysis for customer insights.
- Familiarity with data catalogs, metadata management, and data governance frameworks.
Business and Leadership Skills:
- Exceptional communication and storytelling capabilities, particularly in translating complex data for executive audiences.
- Strategic mindset with a proven history of converting analytics into tangible business outcomes.
- Experience in mentoring, leading, and scaling high-performing BI or analytics teams.
- High degree of emotional intelligence and a service-oriented mindset.

Annual Pay Range
$200,000—$250,000 USD
